Catholic Social Teaching for Chaplaincy
Catholic Social Teaching is the social message of the Catholic Church, communicated by official Church documents. It reflects the thought of theologians and other thinkers as well as the experience of practitioners such as chaplains. It is thus a valuable resource for social analysis, activism and political engagement.
This course will explore key themes particularly relevant for prison chaplaincy: human dignity and human rights, solidarity, the common good and participation and the preferential option for the poor and vulnerable. Participants will be encouraged to reflect on what their praxis contributes both to a prison context and to the broader Catholic social tradition.
