Dr Dominic White OP

Acting Director of Research

Dominic White is a friar and priest of the Order of Preachers (Dominicans), based at Blackfriars in Cambridge. He was born in Guildford, Surrey, in 1973, and studied at Cambridge and Imperial College, London. He encountered the Dominican Order as organist and choir director of St. Dominic’s, London, from 1997 to 2000, and the arts have continued to be an important dimension of his preaching and ministry. He is Acting Director of Research at Margaret Beaufort, where he also teaches for the Catholic Certificate in Religious Studies (CCRS).

His research interests are:

  • Theology of the arts and culture – The Lost Knowledge of Christ: Contemporary Spiritualities, Christian Cosmology, and the Arts (Collegeville, MN: Liturgical Press, 2015); How Do I Look? Theology in the Age of the Selfie (London: SCM, 2020).
  • Sophiology (Wisdom theology) – current collaboration with the executors of the late Prof István Cselényi on The Maternal Face of the Holy Spirit (book project).
  • Spirituality, especially Natural Contemplation.
  • Liturgy: theology of liturgical experience, and connection between liturgy and popular devotion.
  • Contemplative metaphysics, working on the interface between philosophy, spiritual experience.

Dominic is also a composer and poet, and creator of the multimedia dance work Cosmos (2008-9). You can listen to some of his music here.
